Beckmann University has suffered a devastating loss: a dormitory burned to the ground, over a hundred students left without a home, and five lives cut short. Later, when investigations reveal this was more than just a fluke accident, the school is left wondering: who started the Mockridge Dorm Fire?
Fanning the Flames is a radio drama following first year psychology student Jillian Murphy. As host of a weekly online radio show, she uses her knowledge of the human mind to give advice to listeners on a variety of topics at hand. This week’s topic: “Grief, and How to Deal with Loss”, chosen in the hopes of helping her fellow students move past the tragedy. However, when she overhears information about the possible cause of the fire, her show takes an unexpected turn as she attempts to uncover the mystery and understand her own role in the events of that night.

About the Artist:
Melissa Lucie Johnson is a multimedia artist, writer, sound designer, and filmmaker based in Vancouver, BC, Canada. As part of her BFA in Film, Video, and Integrated Media at Emily Carr University of Art and Design, she studied Television as an exchange student at Falmouth University in the United Kindgom. Her work examines documentary and dramatic subject matter, fulfilling both a need for self-expression during difficult life events, and a desire to create fictional worlds and characters to escape one’s reality.
